Paul Potts - The Green, Green Grass of Home
Paul Potts’ career is certainly going places these days – but for
now he’s going home. He has accepted the personal invitation of
Katherine Jenkins to appear at her 8 July 2007. Katherine was so
impressed with the tenor’s performance in winning ITV’s Britain’s
Got Talent that she is reported to have asked him personally to
perform with her at what promises to be a very special gig.
Bristol-born Paul Potts is not a native Welshman, but he’s lived in
Port Talbot from childhood and I’m sure they’ll be more than proud
to adopt him as their own. This quiet, self-effacing man with the
amazing voice would be a worthy ambassador of any town.
Katherine, who comes from Neath, the town next to Port Talbot, and
has only in the last few years taken the operatic world by storm
with her own talent and considerable beauty said to BBC Wales: "It's
a great honour to have Paul make his debut at the Margam show. He
has showed Britain and the whole world what a fantastic performer he
is over the last few weeks.”
He certainly has, with his YouTube videos receiving over a million
hits. People as far away as America now know who this amazing new
tenor is.
"Paul has a really natural voice and the song makes the hairs on
your neck stand up! Now that he's going to make his live debut in
his own home town, I can only imagine that he must be as excited as
me at the thought.”
Paul Potts will be performing Nessun Dorma, the song that made him
famous on the show and showed us all just how great his voice is.
"It's going to be a very special day with Paul, myself and Juan
Diego Florez - the hottest tenor on the planet right now, all
performing on the same bill."
It certainly is – and Paul Potts deserves his place up there with
the great professional opera stars. This show should stamp the seal
of approval of the classical operatic world on his career –
something he’s always wanted. We think he’s pretty hot himself –
watch out Juan Diego Florez!
